What is a DC Variable Speed Furnace Motor & Why All Hype?

dc-variable-furnaceHi everyone, I wanted to just give a brief description what a DC variable speed motor is and how it can benefit you. A DC Variable speed motor is a motor that runs on Direct Current (DC) which is identical to what your car battery or the AA batteries in your remote control for your TV run on. You may be now thinking "does a DC furnace runs on batteries???" The answer is no. Dc furnaces have what's called a built in Converter that actually converts your household AC (Alternating Current) power that you use to power items such as your refrigerator or hair dryer's etc. into DC Power so that the Motor will run. The main benefit of DC motor is the cost savings to the homeowner, DC Power cost's a fraction of what AC power costs to run so in the course of the lifetime of the furnace a customer can save thousands of dollars and has been proven that a high efficiency furnace with a DC motor pays itself off faster and in full with just the energy savings than a furnace with a multispeed AC motor.

There were some studies done in the past and it was proved that A DC motor uses no more electricity than a single 100 watt light bulb! Which is incredible compared to the energy a normal motor uses.

Other benefits of some furnaces with DC motor is the Variable action of the motor which adjusts itself to the demand that it needs rather than a fixed speed that is associated with a multi speed motor which only has one set speed at a time and needs a service technician to adjust it higher or lower.

Finally the DC motors are quieter and are the only furnace that qualifies for significant Ontario energy rebates. Currently there is $1,030.00 in Government rebates available to homeowners to switch out your old furnace with a DC furnace. To see if you qualify visit our home page and click on the "Green Earth Friendly" Button on the Right side of the Screen. There you will see a breakdown of the rebates.
