How to Light Your Fireplace

how_to_light_your_fireplceA common question that we get may times a year is "how do I light my fireplace" well I am pleased to help everyone out. On every fireplace there is a gas valve usually in the bottom section of the fireplace & on the gas valve you will see a knob that points to 3 settings –ON – OFF PILOT.

If your Fireplace has an igniter then you do not have to remove the Glass however if your fireplace does not have an igniter (See "Note" at bottom as to what a igniter looks like) you will have to remove the glass in order to light the pilot.

STEP ONE- Turn the gas valve to the "PILOT" position and...

press the knob down and hold.

STEP TWO- While pressing the knob, light the pilot burner with either a BBQ lighter or press the igniter button to allow the spark to light the pilot flame.

STEP THREE- While the flame is lit keep holding the knob in for about 30 sec to one minute and let go. The flame should stay lit, if it doesn't try again. If it doesn't stay lit then a service call will be needed to determine what is wrong. Once the Pilot is lit the glass MUST be reinstalled immediately. (See Below)

STEP FOUR- As long as the pilot light stays lit you can turn your gas valve to the "ON" position. It should now work. If the Flame goes out there is a technical issue that will need a professional to diagnose.

*PLEASE NOTE* You will have to remove the glass in order to light the flame directly if there is no spark igniter (looks like a BBQ igniter near the gas valve). Be sure to reseal the fireplace as soon as any flame is lit and PRIOR to turning the gas valve to the "ON" position to avoid fire or Carbon Monoxide Poisoning.
